Ten Reasons To Choose Quartz For Your Kitchen Worktops

When remodeling or updating your kitchen, one of the key components is your worktops. The combination of your cupboard fascias and your worktops are the first thing people see, so you want to know you’re making the right choice for you.

But quartz isn’t just a pretty face. Here’s ten reasons why we’d choose our quartz worktops over any other surface every single time...

Quartz Is Non-Porous

Taking pride of place on why we love quartz so much is it’s make-up.

They may look very similar, but marble and granite both have natural capillaries running through them. A spillage on a slab of these guys is going to need cleaning up pretty quickly or it can bleed into the worktop and can be nigh on impossible to remove. They can be sealed to reduce this happening, but the beauty of quartz is that you don’t have any of those shenanigans.

Quartz is completely non-porous due to being made of an extremely handy combination of 93% quartz and 7% resins and polymers topped off by some gorgeous pigments, so none of those exposed capillaries to soak up that spillage of beetroot juice…

Clean Lines - Literally

Carrying on from being helpfully non-porous - in a kitchen, the last thing you want is hiding places for those pesky germs. None of those here - those stunning clean lines that people opt for with quartz counter tops are actually one of the cleanest choices you could make.

Besides the amazing resins and polymers which keep the quartz non-porous, it also contains a natural micro-ban which protects against germs. No grout, no sealing and a super easy surface to wipe clean - perfect for a spotlessly clean work surface.

Looks like the germs will need to look elsewhere for their perfect hiding place eh?

Quartz Colouring Is Consistent

Talking of good looks - one of the great things about quartz is that what you see is what you get. None of this ‘taking Cinderella's make-up off only to find an ugly sister’.

When you cut into other types of stone, there can be vast natural variations. In some instances this could be stunning, but it you’re looking for a simple and consistent aesthetic, that’s the last thing you’ll want.

Many other types of stone such as granite will need to be dyed to achieve this look - which is fine until it’s accidentally chipped or damaged revealing something different underneath.

Only half an inch into other types of rock could be a totally different colour but the beauty of quartz is it’s homogeneous structure - take a slice off the top and it will be the same colour as 6 inches into it - perfect for larger projects which require colour continuation.

What You Order Is What You Get

This is another aspect of quartz which you really can’t overlook. With other stones such as granite, you sometimes need to work with the natural patterns within the stone to get the best effect for your kitchen or project. This can result in unavoidable wastage and cost.

As quartz slabs are constructed as opposed to cut from stone, there’s no lost material - no natural defects or weaknesses to work around - simply a worktop of the exact size and shape you order with the same color, pattern, and texture that you order. Perfect!

Quartz Is More Budget Friendly

Most people have a ball-park figure of what budget they are working with for their kitchen or project and the whole idea of a budget is that you, erm… budget.

The nature of granite or other materials means that budgets can’t always be set in stone (sorry - couldn’t resist it!) due to natural deviations in the stone itself causing wastage or unusable stone.

Knowing with quartz that you can order various sizes, shapes and finishes without risking wastage keeps the cost down for you. It makes quartz an affordable option where other types of stone couldn’t be entertained for your needs.

Quartz Is Much Stronger Than Other Worktops

It may be a bit before your time but do you remember the chef from the Muppets? Boy did he clatter his pans! If you’re an equally enthusiastic cook or chef, you need quartz!

That quartz construction we mentioned? It makes quartz one of the strongest surfaces you’ll find, as it is virtually pure stone with no air pockets, cracks or natural weaknesses to worry about. Combine this with the resin binder we use and it’s almost bulletproof.

Though who’s firing bullets in a kitchen, we're not sure - maybe Miss Piggy after that annoying chef??

Quartz has outstanding scratch resistance

Not only is quartz bulletproof, but it’s also scratch resistant. We have a feeling that’s probably far more relevant to you with your potentially wayward pan handling skills…

Maybe not quite being diamond strength, quartz is definitely the tough cookie of the worktop world. We see it all the time when new kitchens are fitted - they look stunning at first and everyone thinks they’ll look after them but you only need a few chips on a granite surface, or scratches on a stainless steel surface to really start to detract from the quality look you initially had.

Quartz needs no maintenance to remove any scratches as they just don’t happen keeping it’s new and youthful looks for far longer. It’s almost not fair...

Quartz Worktops Are Easy To Clean

Wondering how easy it is to clean your quartz worktops?

All it needs is a mild detergent and a clean cloth - really. Other types of stone will need sealing or to avoid certain products or colours but not with quartz.

If you’d like to really work up a shine from time to time you may wish to use stone polish but it’s not remotely necessary. The low maintenance aspect is one of its strong points and definitely one of the reasons it is so well suited to kitchens or food prep areas.

Quartz Is Perfect For Contemporary Designs

With it’s beautifully straight lines and consistent colouring, quartz is the perfect choice for modern or minimal designs. Whether it’s a modern kitchen or a design project requiring striking features, the scale that you can work on with quartz without any deviation in aesthetics is perfect. You know your outlay, you know your design, you know the end result - it makes it so much easier for your projects knowing you can plan your look in advance and that’s exactly what you’ll get.

Believe us - we’ve dealt with plenty of projects to know that reliability on this scale is priceless!

WAs you can probably gather - quartz is the perfect choice for your worktops - this is why we choose it over so many other options. It delivers exactly what it promises to, time and time again.
